What the published studies say
| Source | Figure | What it measures |
|---|---|---|
| Cost vs. Value 2025, South Atlantic | $28,567 minor · $81,076 major mid-range · $161,511 major upscale | Modeled contractor cost for one fixed scope, in the region that includes Florida |
| Cost vs. Value 2025, national | $28,458 minor · $82,793 major mid-range · $164,104 major upscale | The same scopes, averaged across 119 U.S. markets |
| Angi cost data | About $27,000 average nationally | What homeowners report paying, across all sizes of project |
| Houzz 2026 Kitchen Trends | $20,000 minor · $55,000 major (medians) | Self-reported spending by renovating homeowners |
These studies measure different things, so they disagree. Cost vs. Value prices one defined job at contractor rates. Angi and Houzz reflect what people actually spent, including smaller projects and work they did themselves. None of them is a quote for your Titusville kitchen. The 2025 report is the most recent Cost vs. Value edition available as of November 2026.
What moves the price in a Titusville home
Cabinets. Usually the biggest line. Painting sound boxes costs a fraction of new semi-custom cabinets, and the cabinet guide helps you tell which you have.
Layout. Keeping the sink, range and refrigerator where they are avoids new plumbing and electrical runs. On a slab, moving a sink can mean saw-cutting concrete and patching the floor, so it costs more here than it does in a house with a crawlspace.
Age of the house. Many Titusville homes date from the 1960s. Opening up those walls can turn up old wiring, tired drains or a panel with no room for new kitchen circuits. Aluminum wiring from about 1965 to 1973 adds electrical work. Paint in a pre-1978 home adds lead-safe work practices.
Walls. Removing a bearing wall needs a beam, engineering, a permit and inspections.
Ventilation. Getting a range hood duct through a block wall or a low roof costs more than it sounds, but it is one of the best things you can do for a humid kitchen.
Floors. Restoring terrazzo can cost less than people fear. Removing several old layers from a slab can cost more.

Does a kitchen remodel pay off at resale?
Smaller projects return a bigger share. In the South Atlantic figures from the 2025 Cost vs. Value report, a minor mid-range kitchen remodel recouped about 109 percent of its cost, a major mid-range remodel about 50 percent and a major upscale remodel about 36 percent. These are averages from real estate professionals' estimates, not a promise about your house.
If you plan to sell in the next few years, a refresh is the safer bet. If you plan to stay for ten years or more, build the kitchen you want to live with.
How to set a realistic kitchen budget
Start with the scope, not the number. Write down what must change, such as failing cabinets or a layout that does not work, and what would simply be nice. That list tells you whether you are pricing a refresh, a mid-range remodel or a full remodel.
Then split the budget the way the job gets built. Cabinets usually lead, followed by labor, counters, appliances, then plumbing, electrical, flooring and lighting. If one line grows, such as a bigger peninsula, another has to shrink, such as appliances you keep for now.
Hold back a contingency. Ten percent is often enough for newer homes. Plan on 15 to 20 percent for a house built before 1980. If your home is in a flood zone, also ask how the project's cost compares with the building's value, because the FEMA flood map zone can matter on bigger projects.
Compare every bid against the same scope, and check any license with the Florida DBPR before you sign. When you are ready, call now to talk to a local kitchen remodeler. Any quote comes from the remodeler, based on your home.
Cost questions
What is the cheapest way to update a kitchen?
Keep the layout, paint or reface the cabinets, and replace counters, sink, faucet, hardware and lighting. You change everything you see without paying for new plumbing or electrical runs.
Should I pay a deposit before work starts?
A deposit is normal, especially to order cabinets. Get the payment schedule in writing, tie later payments to finished stages, and only pay a contractor whose license you have checked with the state.
Why do kitchen quotes vary so much?
Usually because they are not pricing the same scope. A good estimate lists the cabinet line, counter material and thickness, appliance allowances and exclusions. Use that list to compare bids line by line.
Is the estimate free?
Ask when you call, because each remodeler sets their own terms. Any remodeling work you decide on is priced and agreed between you and the remodeler.
